I Think I'll Name Him Grady

Me and the Amazon sat here the other night, watching television when I heard the cat scratching around outside the door to be let in. I absentmindedly got up and started across the living room, almost reaching the door before it dawned on me that I'd buried the cat a few weeks ago.

Earlier I'd carried a full bag of trash out and left it on the porch, to be taken to the curb the next morning. I'm not too fond of heading out across the yard after dark. Ya'll know I've got that irrational fear of snakes. I don't care if it IS winter. Mr. Slitherbritches doesn't have a calendar.

Anywho, so I turned on the porch light and slowly opened the door, to find this:

It's important to note here that no zoom or enlargement was used for the pictures. This pesky little booger was that close to the screen door. After she took these shots, the Amazon banged on the door, yelling at him to "GIT!!"

I swear, it just sat there munching a french fry and looking at her like she'd just fell off the short bus.

Possums ain't skeered. For reals.

Raccoons and skunks are pretty brave too when there is some really good and juicy garbage left within their range. We had some major issues last spring and summer here with the 'coons and skunks raiding our garbage cans - not a pleasant thing to have to clean up after those creatures, ya know!

Man, growing up we always found these eating our cat foot on the porch. We'd try to scare them off and they'd just grin up at you with their freaky toothy smiles. Ugh. I hate opossum grins.

Aw, how cuuuttee!!

I have an irrational love of possums. I love their little pink, soft snouts. And how they use their tails to climb. Cute.

Hi, by the way, found you via Meno...

I've seen tame ones and thought they were kinda cute, but man can they turn on the evil grin. I once stopped my car to let one cross the road and he had the gaul to turn around and hiss at my car lol.

Awwww, its a oppossum!!! I lived in the country for 24 years and didn't have a oppossum on my porch until I moved to the city. Better eatin's I suppose. I also raised one to adult from a baby... then I threw it out of the car with a bag of stale cereal and old potatoes. He was happy.

See that's what I get for trying to spell 'possum instead of just sayin' 'possum.

We have tons of them around here, the dogs tree the stupid things all the time when they get let out at night. I'm sure the neighbors just add that to their list of things we do that irritate them. Heh.

Possums aren't scared - but they ARE ugly. At least I have always thought so. And SLOW. Look up "mosey" in the dictionary - you'll see a possum.

I've tagged you - come have a look!

We had a huge Momma 'possum have babies under our house and then she died. We found out because there was a hideous stench comin' up from under the house.
We took pictures of my husband bringing it out. The neighbor popped his head out his window and said, "Oh yea, she'd been in and out of there, but we hadn't for a while now." Sheesh, he could have warned us.
