Pondering Boogers and Rambling About Cavemen

It was the day that wouldn't end. Gawd I'm glad that's over.

Sometimes, when I'm up to my eyeballs in work, I let my mind wander, finding the oddest things to sit and ponder.

For instance... Why do we have allergies? I mean.. did ancient people have them or are they a result of the modernization of our world? Is the nasal stuffiness trying to block entry of certain substances to our bodies? By taking decongestants, could we be allowing stuff in that our systems instinctively know we shouldn't?

I suppose that ancient people, like ya know.. cavemen.... may have used steam for stuffy nasal passages. I spend a lot of time comparing the problems of modern life to that of the cave dwellers and wondering how they coped with the same problems. I think that's why I loved the Earth's Children series of books by Jean M. Auel. She went into great detail about what herbs were used for what ailments, what plants were eaten and how they were prepared.

Cavemen aren't the only weird, mind wandering obsessions I have. There's also the "stranded on a deserted island" scenario. I've spent hours mentally constructing temporary shelters, figuring out how to flag down passing ships...

Dang.. I think I just realized how nuts I sound.

I'd better go do something constructive, like wash a load of dishes. I don't want the nice men in white coats to find the house in a mess when they show up to take me away.

Mahala,
I'm with you. I think the more drugs and crap you take for allergies, the worse they get. Mine are just totally outta control since I started going to an ENT doc.

That series of books was fabulous! I didn't read them until about 3 years ago, and I couldn't wait to get into each one. I got the dvd of Clan of the Cave Bear to see this week. I'll let you know if it is any good.

Dang Jerry, that sucks. I hate allergies and sinus crap. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Kenju.. omg I loved those books. At the end of the last one, Ayla finally had her baby, now I'm anxious to know if there'll be another book. I saw the movie ages ago, it was ok, but nothing compares to the books.

You're not nuts. You're just being prepared for any eventuality. *g*

I wonder how I would survive stranded on an island as I am allergic to coconut. For that reason I can never try out for Survivor, even though it might be an *easy* way to lose a few pounds.

ac: OMG I love coconut, I can't imagine!
