Notes From Miss Independence

Happy 4th ya'll!! I'm sure that your days are filled with plans of grilling burgers and wienies, splashing around in your favorite swimmin' hole and spending time with the family. Here in Frog Pond Holler, we had our street dance and fireworks on Saturday night. I didn't go, but it was there.

Town has been full of tourists the past few days, people on horseback, rafting customers running around in bathing suits (shameful!) and the occasional lost soul asking for directions to the nearest beer. I get tired of explaining that yes, it's a dry county but yes, you can buy beer and wine in Frog Pond Holler because the town was part of Tennessee when the law went into effect.

My plans for the day include pulling the entertainment center out and cleaning behind it, doing a thorough scrubbing of all the nooks and crannies in the bathroom and perhaps, if there's time, moving some stuff around in the bedroom. Oh yeah, and because it's a holiday I'll be going into a panic and possibly hiding whenever I think I hear a car pull up in the driveway. Uncle Mullet has a habit of showing up on holidays.

Hopefully the aroma of freshly baked orange danish will waft down the hall and drag the Amazon out of bed soon. If not I'll have to go in her room and gently remind her that the BBC is having an Eddie Izzard marathon.

Anywho, ya'll enjoy your holiday. If you're outside of the U.S., you have my permission to stop on the way home and pick up a piece of cake, just because the sun came up this morning and we all opened our eyes one more time.

Be Blessed.

Is there any "dry county" where you can't buy booze? The profit from the sale of bootleg is the biggest thing that keeps some places dry. Dry counties make no sense to me.

One advantage of moving 800 miles from family, is that they seldom show up unannounced (well there was my middle brother, but he is another story.)

Happy 4th of July!
