Birthday Wishes

Today my baby girl turns 21. I'm taking Friday off to go pick her up for the weekend. In the meantime, I have to figure out where the heck I'm going to come up with a "pirate" cake.

She's shown here on her seventh birthday (she's the one in the middle.) That was just like.. a week ago right?

Happy birthday Amazon. I hope this means you're not going to get any taller. I can still kick your butt, but it's getting harder every day.

And with her 21st birthday, it becomes official that I'm no spring chicken anymore.

All the best to your baby on her birthday. My baby boy turns 17 on Saturday. Where does it go?

I did a pirate themed birthday for Coffeekids 9th. For the cake I made a treasure chest... would that be a possibility in keeping with your theme? It turned out AMAZING looking and better than any I've seen on the net.

Or you could just make a cake and use pirate figures you can buy at Walmart or the toy aisle of any store. Maybe do a green frosting and use your knife to make it like 'grass' and then add a couple toy palm trees and a little toy treasure chest next the pirates. You could even do a corner of the cake in blue and white and dark blue icing to be water and put a boat there. Captain Jack Sparrows ship! :)

Try Harris Teeter for the cake. They can make practically anything.Happy Birthday to the Amazon - how tall is she?

karen: thanks! Best wishes to your boy child as well :) And I wish I knew where it goes so fast.

aka_mer: I was thinking.. I've got a Santa Clause cake pan, I could slap a patch on his eye, put a skull and crossbones on his hat and call him a pirate lol.

kenju: Oh we don't have Harris Teeter here, or Carvels.. I miss Carvels. I think she's like 5'9" or somewhere around there. Not extremely tall, but tall enough to tower over me lol.

Well, we both were quite warm and heavy 21 summers ago. You're right, we are tougher old birds now but our babies are fledging. Congrats on the occasion and do have two pieces of cake.

21, a pirate cake and a bottle of rum? I love to cook, but cakes have allways been a problem for me. They all end up round with bumpy frosting. Enjoy your weekend.

spring chickens - pffft - they are all scroungy looking with baby feathers falling out and grown up feathers coming in. I'll take the sheen of grown up, wizened up, fat bellied feathers anyday. Hope you all have a great celebration!

Oh yea - you can get Black Pearl M&Ms - put those on your cake and that should fix the piratey thing!

ac: Indeed we were! Thanks for the warm wishes :)

DG: Apparently last night she was enjoying a bottle of something alcoholic, but it wasn't rum, thank goodness. If she inherited that gene from me, she'd have been hurling for the next two days.

Sort of like pimple faced, gawky teenagers? I think you have a point there :)
