It's like jet lag.. only I've not been anywhere.
It doesn't look like I'll be getting out of the holler at all this year, not unless there's some sudden, financial miracle on the horizon. But what if I could afford a vacation? I have two weeks (and 2 hours) left. If I had the moolah to go anywhere.. where would it be?
The first place I'd visit would be this place:
Xavier castle is in the Navarre region of Spain and was the home of some of my ancestors on my Dad's side. It's one of those places I'm determined to visit before I die. I've traced different lines of my family tree to that region. I'm sure I could spend two weeks gallivanting around Navarre and the Pyrenees mountains, then down in to southern France without getting bored.
I've got ancestors from there too, on Ma's father's side, rumored decedents of those wacky Merovingians. Okay, I can't prove it, I don't have any real documentation, but what the hell.. it's fun to read about and it would be a great excuse to go there on vacation.
Where else?
I'd love to travel back to the western half of the U.S. again... but not in the summer. That trip to Vegas a couple of years ago, on July 4th weekend, taught me one thing worth repeating; when people say "it's a different kind of heat," it's bull caca.
There was sweat in crevices of my body that I didn't know could hold liquid.
It was hot. I don't like hot. Not that hot.
I'd like to go to Roswell, right up to the property line where it's rumored that if you cross, you'll mysteriously disappear without a trace, at the hands of some super secret U.S. Government conspiracy.
And have my picture taken. Because I'm weird like that.
While I was out that way, I'd have to go check out L.A. and do all the nerdalicious touristy stuff, just because. Then I'd rent a spiffy little convertible, put the top down and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway at a leisurely pace, stopping to take pictures along the way. I might even put on some big goofy sunglasses and tie my hair in a scarf like a movie star, circa 1958.
Then there's the Pacific Northwest. I had a taste of that region when I went to Vancouver a few years ago. It was my first time on a plane. When I boarded in Knoxville, in the middle of June, it was 101°. When we landed in Vancouver, BC, I had to put a jacket on. The cool, night air was heavenly. I'd love to head back in that direction some day, poking around the Seattle area and down around Portland.
Doesn't it seem like there are alot of serial killers from the Northwest? What's up with that?
Just an observation.
Anywho, the urge to runaway has been strong lately. I know it'll pass. When I get this way I like to find a quiet place, close my eyes and let my mind take me there.. anywhere. It helps. I think the ability to disconnect is a direct result of the stuff that happened with my dad. I mean, I'm always saying everything happens for a reason, even the bad stuff. Maybe that's the reason, it taught me the skills to cope with how things are now.
Maybe.. I dunno.
Anywho.. where is the one place you can't wait to visit? Let me know in your comments, kay?
Ya'll have a great weekend!
Later Taters.

I hear you! By the way, I lived in Phoenix for many years and there is a word for dry heat..actually, two: 'Oven' and 'hell'
As for Vancouver - that place is the stuff of dreams!!!

My traveling is all "mental" for the most part these days. Well, except for the two day trip my daughter and the kids and I took a couple weeks ago down to northern Virginia, just outside D.C. But, in my dreams, although there are lots of places I'd like to visit, the two places I would really most like to see before I leave the planet would be Sweden and Scotland -homelands of my ancestors. It will never happen unless I win a huge lottery so my trips are now done vicariously, usually online, reading about places where other people live and/or visit, etc.
I don't know. Italy has so many beautiful and historic places to see - but mostly any traveling I want to do involves privacy and a beach. Well - anywhere I'm pretty sure there are no harpoons!
Personally, given a choice between dry heat or humidity, I'll take the dry heat every single time. I hate, loathe, and despise humidity.
I hate all extreme heat.
If I had my druthers, I would move to the South Pacific (Tahiti, esp). Temps there middle somewhere in the 70s to 80s.
If Tahiti was too much, I'd aim for Saipan or the Solomon Islands.
Definitely the SP, though.
I'd settle for Oklahoma right now, tryin' like hell to get there too.
