Let's get caught up on the latest, greatest news from the Cubicle Asylum, Frog Pond Holler and all things Mahala-fied, kay?
Here at the Asylum business has picked up a little but we're still on four day weeks. Thelma and Louise speculate that they'll put the guys out on the plant floor back to working a full week, but keep us cut back for the time being. I hope they're wrong.
Bubbles has suddenly decided that we're allowed to wear jeans to the office, as long as they're in the form of capris. I'd just like to let it be known that if I came bepopping in here with denim of any flavor plastered to my big behind, a memo would be sent out reminding everyone of the office dress code. But, as ya'll know by now, we have a different set of rules for Bubbles.
I'm trying not to release my inner bitch and just let it go.. but I'm feeling especially catty and snarkalicious lately, so we'll see.
A few new businesses have cropped up here in the holler, as they do each summer. A retired couple bought the tiny strip of land separating the creek from the road, parking a mobile home type trailer.. store.. thingie there. The sign says "coffee, treats and gifts." Situating themselves right across from the post office, an area thick with hiker traffic, was probably the best business idea anyone's had in a long time.
The town library moved from it's location beside the elementary school to the old forest service station on the main drag through town. They're hoping to generate more traffic. Some residents said the old location was "too far outside of town."
No lie. You could SEE the new location from the old one.
Cletus has re-opened his fast food/pool hall venture adjacent to the garage. The menu includes "fresh flounder."
Find the mountains of Western North Carolina on a map. Now find the ocean. I ask you.. how "fresh" could it possibly be?
As for me, I'm still poking along. Bossman has found excuses for me to work a full forty hour week when he can, a kindness for which I am truly grateful. Juggling the bills with a short paycheck has been difficult, but I love a challenge. I've figured out even more ways to cut my grocery bill and although Ma doesn't appreciate it, I've been pretty damn proud of myself.
I had hoped to go to Athens, Ga. in September to see Craig Ferguson, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I could swing the price of the tickets, but by the time I figure in gas to drive there (around 3.5 hours,) a night in a hotel and food, well.. things are just too tight right now.
Everything happens for a reason. Accept and move on.
I'd better get busy doing some actual work. Ya'll enjoy the rest of your Thursday.
Later Taters!

Now Mahala - you could always ask for paypal contributions toward your Ferg trip.
You NEED a treat weekend, darlin'!
Now, out with the tips on how to cut the grocery bill!
Yeah, Tiff is right. Stay hopeful and it could happen!
Maybe Cletus is confused as to what flounder actually is. *g*
So many businesses have cut back - it's so frightening.
No Craig Ferguson for Mahala? Makes me wanna weep. :(
