I just want ya'll to know I love you guys. Your comments regarding my truck purchase made me smile and although the jury's still out on "Gertrude" I agree that she needs a name. I'm leaning towards "Jolene."
She was surrounded by the men folk here at the Asylum first thing this morning and met with their approval. Lulu even wallered up in to her cab, running her fingers across her oily, ArmorAlled dash, oooooing with delight.
Ma, on the other hand, just looked out the front door, snarled her nose and said, "A truck? Hmmph," then waddled back to her room.
Oh well.
The job hunt is on for both me and the Amazon. I refuse to continue living as I am and it's not going to change as long as I continue working here. It's that simple. The Amazon is looking as well, she's been cut back to two shifts a week and has the presence of mind to understand that she needs to look elsewhere. In the meantime, I'm looking in to some freelance writing jobs online.
As they say in the movie Finding Nemo, "Keep swimming, just keep swimming."

I'm lovin' "Jolene" - I can hear the song as you race against the wind - a goddess in her white truck.
The only meaning of the name I could find was that it has French origins and means pleasant. Other sites say it is a "modern compilation" of Jo and Lene. Jo can be either male or female and lene is of norwegian origins with no apparent meaning.
As a great man once said - "if it's written on the Internet it must be true!"
Bottom line - the name is clearly original and the song just begs to be blasted on the radio.
Where the heck is that "great man" any dang way? Reckon my new truck will make it all the way to Callyforny?

I do believe Jolene could easily make her way to LA. Of course HE probably wouldn't be there - he's running around the country being all stand-uppity.

I am so hopeful for you and your Amazon regarding the job hunt. My own Amazon is having a hard time getting started. Her skills, arty as they are, just don't command any moolah. Or benefits. I am awfully anxious about it, more anxious than she is, unfortunately.
My best girlfriend bought a truck and it passed her Grandpa's approval when she started it up and he pronounced it "didn't sound like a lawnmower". I'm betting Jolene has a deep and mysterious growl, a purr of power. I can just see and hear you on those winding mountain roads!
Whee! New truck! I thought "Terrence" right at first, which doesn't exactly meet hte gender guidelines...
But you could still stick some girly decals on him. HE could be a gay truck? I don't know.
