Typical Monday Morning

Oh it's going to be a great day, I can feel it.

I came in to find that our inventory control / data entry system is down. Kaput. Dead. Dig a hole. Not gonna work. Oh Great Computer Guru was asked what he thought, in his infinite wisdom, the problem could be. His answer?

"Dunno. I called IBM." I wish I could make his salary just to call IBM every time the system has a brain fart.

So here we sit, twiddling our thumbs, picking our noses and staring at the ceiling. It's going to be a very long day at this rate.

Bossman isn't coming in until after lunch, so at least there's that. I don't have to try to "look" busy when I can't do anything productive. Looking busy is a creative talent. Bubbles, for instance, will probably be the first one to go when the next round of layoffs hits the fan. She doesn't understand the whole concept or purpose of looking busy and will blatantly sit there and read a book as the big bosses pass by.

Never admit you have nothing to do.

The lull in actual work this morning did give me a chance to find out how Lulu's weekend trip to Raleigh went. She took her boy Squatch off to college for the first time Saturday. She says she didn't get emotional, that because of eighteen years of shared custody with the boy's father, she's used to him being away from home.

I'm not buying it for a second. I expect to go in there and find her under her desk in the fetal position, wailing uncontrollably, snot and tears flowing down the front of her perfectly ironed blouse any time now.

The front porch temperature yesterday climbed to 103°. I really need to buy groceries, but I don't want to drive to the store after work when it's that hot. Ma's down to two Cokes, there's nothing really to fix for dinner. We're out of milk, bread and eggs so I can't put it off any longer. I keep waiting, thinking it'll cool off at least a little, but there's no end in sight.

I think I'm going to go file some stuff, maybe dust off my plants. Oh speaking of plants, Leafy bit the big one. Yep, went belly up. Died. Went to meet his maker. I had moved him into Lulu's office window over the weekend and he got fried. I'll be buying myself a $2 jade plant at the grocery store, it'll be alot less stressful. That is, if I can get it home through the desert heat without killing it.

Ya'll have a good one. Later Taters!

I'm working from home now but I just love the line, "Never admit you have nothing to do."

Jade plants are pretty strong, I agree. Not much upkeep.

Sorry to hear of the death of Leafy.

I think you should go to JoAnn Fabrics or Hancock Fabrics or even Michaels (whichever you have in your region of the country) and buy a nice FAKE plant. A realistic looking one, but fake none-the-less.

One of the girls I work with gets antsy and will announce "I am SO bored! There is NOTHING to DO!!"

The other 2 of us really want to brain her and tell her you NEVER say stuff like that out loud but she just doesn't get it. Holy cow, it doesn't take a brain surgeon!

Years ago, I was an expert on looking busy, but nowadays, I don't have to pretend - I AM busy!!

Looking busy and the ability to intertwine actual work with goofing off is my specialty!

I'm sorry about Leafy. He was a cute little plant and a nice ice breaker. Maybe you could get another leaf and try again.
