Almost Friday

It dawned on me today that I've not snapped the first picture since returning from Las Vegas, other than a few random dog shots. There have been plenty of opportunities, deer at work.. with tiny spotted babies, a strange white toad, countless odd bugs and a blue tailed lizard (which sadly turned out to be dead, but then, he would have sat still for the picture at least.) I don't know why I haven't been taking any, I'll have to work on that. Besides, I need to fill up that new flickr account.

The local weatherman (well, he's an hour away but it's as close to "local" we've got) keeps saying we're having a cooling trend. When I came home from work tonight it was 93 degrees on the porch, in the shade. Now, at 9:12pm the house has finally cooled off to 79.9 degrees, with the a/c going wide open. If this is a cooling trend, I'd hate to see what he calls a heatwave.

I'm leaving early Saturday to take the Amazon back to college. I dread the eight hour round trip, her being away from home, the moving her back into the dorm. It's going to be a long haul in this heat with no a/c in the van. I'll be one grumpy assed bitch when I get back. I mean, grumpier than normal.

I got my co-worker hooked on Rootsweb and researching her family history. I think I've created a monster. Bless her heart, she's hooked more than I ever was. Today we went around feeling each other's Anatolian bumps, comparing sizes. She's amazed by the story of the Melungeons and absolutely tickled to find out about the varied cultures and races she came from. I've always known she had the traits, but it's not something you can casually go around bringing up to people, especially around here. (It's coming Idgie, I promise.)

I looked up a few names from my project the other night. "L" who works in the office next to mine found a new lead on a deadend in a line that she and I share. The name is one of the coolest so far, Micajah. He had a son named Ahab as well, which isn't your typical hillbilly/redneck name either. It seems that Micajah was excommunicated from the church way back then. There seems to be a trend of my ancestors being kicked out of various religious establishments. It explains a lot.

The sky is flashing like a loose light bulb. It's fixin' to come a hell of a storm.

It's almost Friday. Hang in there.

Later Taters.

I have a "Hallelujah" and a "Hallelujah Jr." in my Dad's family history.

I've not come across anyone named that miz! That's pretty unusual.

Ahab? Well now. On my mom's side we have the old, old fashioned names like Mildred, Beatrice and her name, Lois Ann. Nothing cool like Ahab, though.

My grandpa was named Mose - not Moses - and my great grandpa was named Leach. He had three wives (two were sisters) (not at the same time) and fathered 17 children. Apropos of.....well.

We had that same storm and it was a doozy. The power was knocked off for 5 or 6 hours, during which I worried about how hot it was going to get. I'm listening to a weatherman promising a cooling trend too. Tapping my foot.

I went yesterday and moved the summer dorm girl out in a van with no AC too. I was so cranky by the time I got home. Next Saturday is move back in day. I am getting too old for this and she seems to have more stuff each time rather than less.

(we just got our a/c bill, our house will now be the same as the outside air for the rest of the season!)

It hit 100 here yesterday. Then a thunderstorm blew through and our high today is supposed to a chilly 85. *g*

Hey, I've got a Micajah in one of my lines! Wow. He's collateral to me, though. And one of my ancestors was always getting hauled into court in the late 1600s/early 1700s for swearing in public. And he was a churchdeacon! That just makes me laugh and laugh. :)
